I went through the city on my way back from a tutorial, and ventured into the new David Jones centre at the bottom end of the Queens Street mall. It’s a big, sparkling white, exclusive-store-filled behemoth representing, in my mind, all the woes of capitalism. There’s a Lious Vuitton, a Tiffany’s, and dozens of other overpriced exclusive clothing and shoe stores, and minimum wage staff scuttling about selling and cleaning everything, while from the upper floor you can see the homeless people shuffling past on the street (please excuse the almost crimnal use of cliche there). It really did make me shudder.
